Mama...
So when I was a little girl, there was a lady that literally took me into her home and taught me many things that I was not learning in the messed up environment I was being raised in. She taught me how to clean, she fed me yummy food, she taught me how to shave my legs, set my hair, clean myself up...yep, all of that and much more. What was most profound was what I saw between she and her husband. I saw a loving, giving man that was safe and I was impacted by him. She told me once, when I was still young and very unsure of myself, that I would be the Homecoming Queen one day. I recall looking down at my hands and shaking my head and telling her, 'no, I wouldn't'...but I was.
I heard that she passed away yesterday and while I won't be able to make the funeral - I wish I could, because I would get up and tell everyone how she completely changed the direction of my life by her love for me. Today is her birthday...I saw it on my birthday calendar as I left my laundry room. I know she is celebrating in heaven, and I want to honor her today. I have tried hard to pass on what she did for me. When I tell my 'story' she's always in it. Mama Pipher...thank you.
