Man's Search for Meaning
This book by Victor Frankl is one that I pick up periodically because it is a great check in my life. When Victor was asked why this book has had so much success, his reply was this: "If hundreds of thousands of people reach out for a book whose very title promises to deal with the question of a meaningful life, it must be a question that burns under their fingernails." Interesting reply.
When I read about the Holocaust, I can't wrap my mind around how something of this magnitude could happen. And then I look around at our culture and see how things come to us slowly and we accept it. Like the frog in the warm water and then it boils and he dies because it was gradual and he hardly noticed.
I observed the answers from the three college presidents at the December 5, 2023 congressional testimonies and I could see how it could happen again. They simply could not say what was wrong with 'Jew hatred'. Wait, these are some of our brightest and best women and they most certainly have been subjects of hatred and prejudice, but couldn't speak against hatred and prejudice of the Jews! Only 80 years removed from the Holocaust! And if you need to be reminded of what happened there, this book by Victor Frankl has it spelled out in great disturbing detail.
So what does this have to do with peace and purpose? Our culture seems to be imploding with hatred on many levels and I wonder if there is any way to turn it around? I hope so...I will do my part.
