Outlive

Outlive:  The Science & Art f Longevity by Peter Attia, MD

Another great read!  This is a very in-depth description of what it takes to live longer and better.  A  discussion of how to delay or even prevent the chronic diseases that kill most people, including heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease and type 2 diabetes.

Great explanations of why your bloodwork and cholesterol test results at your annual physical may be 'normal', but you  might still be unhealthy - because average is not the same as  optimal!

Exercise may be the most potent longevity 'drug' there is and how to begin training for the Centenarian Decathlon.  :)

Also, why you should forget about diets and focus instead on nutritional biochemistry, using technology and data to personalize your eating patterns.

I am a health information junkie and this book was full of great advice.  However, I was not prepared for Chapter 17 which he called, Work in Progress: The high price of ignoring emotional health!  This is the holistic approach that I love and the emotional barriers are often left untouched.

"As should be obvious by now, this chapter will be different from the rest of this book, because in it I am not the physician; I am the patient  And I am a patient that considers himself lucky to be alive.  Up until this point, I have focused almost entirely on the physical aspects of health span and longevity, but here I will explore their emotional and mental sides, which is some ways are more important that everything else I have  laid out thus far."

I recall the years that I tried to heal my body when my spirit was wrecked and my soul was dry. (I had turned away from God because of so much pain in my life).  So, this message rings true.  The book is worth you time. Some get it on audio.  I still love to mark up a book and have the ability to go back and read and reread.

Peace & Purpose...yes!
