Amen University
Just finished another course from Dr. Daniel Amen through his Amen University. We recently lost someone that we love a lot to Alzheimer, and it is a tragic way to end your years. Here are some of the things I learned in this most recent course.
Warning signs of dementia:
- Low energy
- Poor mood or depression (much more likely to get dementia)
- Anxious, worried stressed
- Brain fog
- Not sleeping 7 - 9 hours every night (this is when your brain 'washes' itself)
- High blood pressure
- High blood sugar (he kept stressing the importance of knowing and managing your numbers)
- Sexual dysfunction
- Not being compliant with your health decision or making bad decisions (frontal lobe problems)
- Weight goes up and brain size goes down
Here are some risks and it is up to each of us if we will determine to reduce our risks:
- Low education
- Diabetes
- Smoker
- Parkinson's disease (may be caused by environmental toxins)
- Untreated depression
- Untreated ADD or ADHD
- Low estrogen
- Low testosterone
- Sleep apnea
- Cancer prevention
- Anti-inflammatory diet
- Tooth and gum care - floss and see your dentist
- Heart disease
- ANT's Automatic Negative Thoughts
- Belly fat
