Ireland/Scotland
Just returned from an extended trip to Ireland and Scotland. Many cathedrals, churches and abbeys and it was conducive to worship, contemplation, communion and awe. And yes, we had fun too.
This country is rich in history that goes back hundreds of years, and some of the sights we saw have stood the test of time. It reminded me that many have passed before us and that we can always learn from the past. My favorite was taking the ferry to Mull and yet another ferry to the Isle of Iona. There we had communion at the holy site where St. Columba came from Ireland in AD 563, and founded a monastery that became the heart of the early Scottish church. It retains its spiritual atmosphere and is a frequent destination for those who wish to worship at one of Scotland's most historic and sacred sites.
This was out of our comfort zone as far as allowing someone else doing the planning and execution, but it was just right. Our tour guide and driving were both excellent and made it possible for us to get the most out of the experience. Very thankful we could experience these rich, beautiful countries. Oh, and one interesting note, there are 7 million people in Ireland and 10 million sheep. The hills are covered with them! Great trip. Would highly recommend it if you get the chance to go, and it encourages me to make the effort to see more of the world. Peace...
