December/Christmas
December is always such a busy time...lots of preparations to celebrate the birth of Christ. I recall when my sons were small and I tried to instill the meaning of the season in them there were a couple of traditions that we did. We had a birthday cake for Jesus, sang to Him and I prompted them to think about what gifts we might give Him? Another tradition we had, especially when they were young and had many gifts to open, was that I had wrapped the gifts of The Holy Spirit up in small boxes and they would open these in between their toys and whatever else they received. The idea was to have them realize that the best gifts are the ones from God's Spirit.
Now they are grown, with families of their own, and one of my frequent prayers is that they would lead their families well. I tell them that they never know who they might be raising - the next world changer could be right in their home, yes, right there in their sphere of influence.
Last week's message at church reminded me that Jesus was born in a very difficult time in history, and yes, even under evil leaders. His purpose was still fulfilled. In this season, let His purpose be fulfilled. Peace for us...seek it, it's worth the effort! Enjoy the busy and the preparations - it's fun giving gifts, and celebrating meals together, but keep your focus on the One who came in weakness and yet He manifested His power and grace.
"The Word became flesh and took up residence among us." John 1:14
