Condi
Love biographies...this one is about Condoleezza Rice and it's a great example of good parenting. With ancestors on both sides who were white slave owners and slaves, she comes from two lineages - the Rices and the Rays who were both devoted to education and achievement. Her parents made sure that she had a constant stream of books, education, music lessons, foreign languages, ballet, figure skating. She graduated from high school at 16 and college at 19, and received her Ph.D at 25. Remarkable! Influenced greatly by Joseph Korbel -her 'intellectual father', she began to study political science. She went on to become National Security Advisor in 2001, Secretary of State in 2004. There was a quote from one of the nuns at the Catholic High School she attended in Denver that stands out to me. "Condi was very, very poised, beautiful, charming, impeccable manners a perfect lady willing to make sacrifices for what she wanted and willing to do the things that were necessary to keep with her goals."
Biographies are a great way to spend your time. Of course, Condi had a very strong faith base and that was her anchor and guide often in life. Admiration for her and her parents.
P.S. Check out Joseph Korbel's story...equally interesting.
