Freedom

So when the recent celebrations took place of D Day and the men storming the beaches of Normandy, I was prompted to read some of the history about that time period.  It took me from WWII books to the Holocaust.  Oh dear...that is disturbing reading, but I can always learn.  Hate starts small and it reminds me to keep it in check. Also, just read a book called the Ground Kisser.  She was put on a boat by her parents so she could escape Communism when Saigon fell.  I can't imagine their heartbreak to make the decision of which children would be sent to potential freedom and which ones would stay behind.  I won't ruin it for you, but it's a worthwhile read.  This concept stood out especially in light of some of the freedoms that are being considered to be taken away from us.  Also, watching it be a personal loss and tragedy to see a country fall to socialism - our daughter-in-law lived there when it was a wonderful place to live.

"In America we get to choose our leaders, our livelihood, where we will live, what job we will work at, and if we want to leave that job, enjoy medical treatment, practice our faith whatever that might be  for each one personally,   Our Capitalistic society allows us to earn a fair wage, then spend it how we choose.  The government does not enslave us, but we are free to live as we choose." This is an excerpt from the Ground Kisser.   I am grateful to live in America.
